God Mind » Devlog
Hello, I am Can Kaan Kaya. I am a high school student living in Istanbul who has been involved in software development for about 4 years. I dedicate my entire day to either sports, coding, or drawing. In this Devlog, I will share some interesting things about the game I am developing. Let's get straight to the point. Here are the problems I have encountered and their solutions:
- Team issue: During the development of this game, I changed 4 teammates. The reasons varied from them being too busy to not caring enough. However, there was one person I couldn't replace, my friend named Amine. Although he didn't contribute to the game in any tangible way, he provided a sort of psychological support. It may sound strange, but playing games and doing something with a few friends every evening is more enjoyable than being alone in a room for months. I must mention that I'm not the type of person who immerses themselves in work for hours. I allocate a significant portion of my day to entertainment, and some parts for obligatory tasks. Nevertheless, having someone who adds fun to my work, whether it's coding, game design, drawing, or even voice acting, can be beneficial. The main challenge arises when that person's morale is low. If they're sad, the entire team feels sad; if they're happy, the team feels happy. But what if they want to leave? I've experienced this myself. Amine didn't want to be part of this boring project. Just imagine trying to motivate someone who is working on something completely unrelated to their interests. Although I found other people to fill the gap, this issue created a problem.
- Chat-GPT: Well, the second thing I enjoy the most in life is artificial intelligence. I can say that approximately 2 out of the 4 years of my software development journey were spent learning about artificial intelligence. Even now, I'm using Chat-GPT to translate this entire text. The reason behind this is that machine translation is terrible. It produces awful translations, and to be honest, my English isn't perfect either. I tried getting help from a few individuals, but Chat-GPT has been extremely helpful, especially in terms of translation. It not only assists with translations but also helps me proofread and make corrections to the text I write for the game. My recommendation is to use Chat-GPT.
- Creating narrative-driven games: As you know, there is a significant difference between a narrative-driven game and a game with a generic story. There can be various challenges, but we can say that narrative-driven games are relatively more difficult, at least for me. Dialogues, texts, and trying to present events in the best possible way can be truly complex. However, the main pitfall I often encounter is not realizing that I am designing and playing the game from my own perspective. Sometimes, I forget that different players may have different reactions when they play the game. Therefore, my suggestion here is to have as many people as possible playtest the game.
Well, that's all from me for today. This was just an introductory Devlog, so it didn't have much meaning. Perhaps you have learned about the game and me. End...
